Wayne Rooney will be leading the English side for their World Cup qualifier match against San Marino this Friday. With John Terry announcing his retirement from the National side, Rooney has been given the chance to captain the England National side. Rooney said "I speak to the young players & offer advice. Hopefully I can bring the best out of them & they can bring the best out of me." These words bring out the
zeal from Rooney to help younger players and grow together as a team. He also said  "I always remember Sir Alex saying what a big help Cantona was to all those young ones at United."

With Rolando and Messi captaining their National sides for big tournaments, Rooney always missed out with much senior players like Beckham, Terry and Gerrard being offered the captaincy. Rooney now has his chance of proving his inspirational skills on the field for their National side. Rooney always gives his everything to the team and many managers wanted a player like Rooney in their own squad.

Rooney has always been criticized for his poor performance for the National side, but it takes time, Roy Hodgson gave full charge to Rooney to go out and bring in the best in him for the England side. Rooney now takes on  Alan Shearer's record for his most goals for the England national side.
